Havia, a member of the influential Winchell family, enlists in the military with the goal of acquiring enough recognition and esteem to secure his position as the head of the family. He is close friends with Qwenthur and works alongside him on missions. Initially, Havia's motivation for joining the military stems from a desire to earn his inheritance. However, later in the story, it becomes clear that he has more ambitious plans - he wishes to use his newfound power to end the longstanding feud between the Winchell and Vanderbilt families, allowing him to marry his fiancée, who is part of the latter family.
