John, a talented pianist who had been studying music for months in Paris without much progress, met Nadja and adopted a haughty attitude towards other members of the Dandelion Troupe. Despite his outward confidence, he secretly envied them for their enjoyment of their craft and freedom. Although John was highly regarded as a genius pianist in England before moving to France, he found himself uninspired since then. Nadja's optimistic personality helped lift John out of his slump by offering him ideas on how to balance his English roots with the pleasures of life in France. Eventually, John returned the favor by introducing Nadja to a crucial person from her past.
