Cissy first appeared as an anime character when she faced off against Ash Ketchum during his challenge for the Coral-Eye Badge in Fit To Be Tide. Tracey describes Cissy as one of the toughest trainers within the Orange Crew, specializing in Water-type Pokémon. At her Gym, opponents are required to use only Water-type Pokémon during battles. Ash discovered that the Orange Crew's Gym battles differed from what he was accustomed to in the Indigo League. The first part of their match involved an accuracy test where both trainers used Water Gun to hit targets accurately. In the second phase, they raced around buoys near the coast during a surfing competition. Despite these differences, Ash emerged victorious and claimed the Badge. Cissy resides with her assistant Senta and little brother, who is also a Pokémon Trainer.
