Admiral Stokes served in the Alliance's 11th fleet as a rear admiral and vice commander under Legrange. He joined the National Salvation Military Councils coup against the government alongside his commander. However, when Yang Wen-li refused to participate, the 11th Fleet engaged with loyalist forces at the Battle of Doria. Stokes' forces were cut in half by Yang, and Attemboroughs squadron was sent forward to occupy them. The sudden loss of communication may have caused Stokes' forces to continue moving forward for some time. Eventually, realizing the situation, Stokes turned to aid Legrange, but Attemborough's forces attacked fiercely, convincing him to engage with the smaller force first. This played right into Yang's hands as Attemborough mostly stayed just out of reach and only attacked when Stokes would turn back towards the main battle. Despite Yang repeatedly offering surrender, Stokes refused to relent, resulting in his loss along with the rest of the 11th Fleet.
