Ash and his companions encountered Jack Walker, a Pokémon Ranger, while on a mission to safeguard Manaphy's egg. Upon hatching, Manaphy was immediately drawn to May due to her resemblance to its mother. As a result, the two developed an incredibly close bond, with May treating Manaphy as her own child and Manaphy learning words such as "love" and "you." However, this bond threatened Manaphy's quest to locate Samiya. Despite attempting to distance herself from Manaphy, they eventually reunited for a tearful embrace. After bidding farewell, Manaphy shared one final hug with May before departing to fulfill its duty to Samiya. With a heartfelt "Love you Mama, Love you May," Manaphy expressed its affection towards its beloved human companion.
