M1, M2, and M3 are members of a martial arts team known as Team Ichigaki in the Dark Tournament. Their real names are Yen, Kai, and Ryo. They were trained by their master, Mitamura, from childhood and learned various martial arts techniques. However, when Dr. Ichigaki poisoned their master, they gave up their freedom to save him. Ichigaki then implanted Blood-Slaver Nodes on their backs, which made them under his complete control and increased their strength. Their souls were trapped inside and unable to act freely, although all three desired to be free of Ichigaki at any cost, even death. Despite this, they had some abilities that allowed them to send Kuwabara a message in their dreams explaining their pasts. M2 and M3's attacks are invisible to those without sufficient spirit training, while M1 uses visible attacks to distract enemies. They fight efficiently as a team, using their attacks to cover each other and keep opponents on the defensive.
During the preliminaries, they won all of their matches without losing a single round and easily killed an opponent's member. The next day, while Kuwabara was sleeping, they sent him a message explaining how they became Ichigaki's servants. In the Dark Tournament pairing against Team Urameshi, Yusuke and Kuwabara were initially unable to see through their attacks due to the Blood-Slaver Nodes. However, under Ichigaki's commands, they neutralized Kuwabara from fighting. The anger at Ichigaki gave Yusuke the ability to see through their techniques and attack them successfully. Genkai then used a special technique that allowed their souls to choose between being corrupt or pure, removing the Nodes without killing their bodies and winning the match for Team Urameshi. Although they initially felt they should not be allowed to see their master, Genkai explained how they were healed, and Mitamura forgave them.
Kai attempted to take Kuwabara's place in Team Urameshi to make up for his actions, but the tournament rules did not allow it. It is also shown that all three of them and their master made it out of the arena alive after the final matches.
