Ichijiku is a director at a research institute who supervises "witches" and manages "sorcerian." he deploys people to capture and reclaim a-rank witches when they escape. his cold and merciless demeanor suggests that he values human life little, treating all witches as mere tools for his own purposes. he has no qualms about disposing of any witch deemed unworthy to live. it was later discovered that ichijiku's interest in joining the clandestine research institute stemmed from a desire to find a way to revive his deceased sister, rena. in an attempt to achieve this goal, he conducted experiments behind his superiors' backs, using some of his sister's brain tissue on kotori's grain hoping that her memories would be preserved inside the creature. however, despite his efforts, the experiment was unsuccessful and only accelerated the growth of kotori's grain.
