Louis XVI's cousin attempted to seize the throne by plotting against him. He was second in line for the throne of France, but his attempt at kidnapping Marie Antoinette failed due to Lady Oscars intervention. Afterward, he tried to kill Prince Louis XVI and make it appear as an accident by switching the rifle used during hunting with a tampered one that would explode upon triggering. Later in the story, Duke de Orleans allowed anti-monarchists like the Black Knight and his followers to secretly gather at his Palais Royale due to his liberal beliefs.
