Doom Tree, Hell Tree, Tree of Light, 魔界樹

The Makaiju, or Hell Tree, is an extraterrestrial tree that sustains Ail and Ann but has become unhealthy due to its need for energy. Initially, the aliens supply it with human energy, but eventually, this stops working. In the dubbed version and ADV subtitles, it's called the Doom Tree. When the aliens attempt to offer Usagi as a sacrifice to the tree, it becomes enraged and harms those around it, resulting in Ann's death. The tree then tells its story to Sailor Moon, explaining that it once had numerous children whom it provided energy to but became greedy and fought over power. In the English dub, however, it was claimed that "evil forces" were responsible for corrupting its children. Originally known as the Tree of Light, this solitary tree lived on a distant planet for eons and created humanoid life forms. Eventually, only two remained - small children whom the tree fled into space with. Weakened and needing love's energy to survive, the tree was purified by Sailor Moon's powers and vanished. After reuniting, Ail and Ann are given a new sapling, signifying the rebirth of the tree, allowing them to start anew and leave Earth forever for unknown destinations.
