Tonjit is a member of a group of nomads who reside on Longring Longland. He was trapped on tall stilts for ten years, which caused him to become separated from his fellow nomads. After being rescued by the Straw Hat Pirates, he lamented that he could not reunite with them due to high tides. However, he was eventually able to be reconnected with his horse, Shelly, although she was later captured by Foxy. This led to the Davy Back Fight. Following Luffy's victory over Foxy, Aokiji used his Devil Fruit powers to freeze all of the water on the island for a week, enabling Tonjit to ride Shelly across the frozen sea in order to meet up with his clan. In the anime, instead of Aokiji, Tonjits grandson appeared from the ground, riding a mule which provided him transportation. Tonjits clothing, lifestyle, horse, and dwelling in a yurt are reminiscent of the nomadic cultures found in Central Asia, particularly Mongolia.
