Iwabee is a konohagakure genin who stood out during his time at the academy despite having poor grades on academic tests. he was part of team 5 along with metal lee and denki kaminarimon. on the day of the seventh hokage's inauguration, iwabee watched the event while dreaming of becoming a renowned ninja. after enrolling in the academy, he consistently excelled in his ninjutsu classes but struggled with non-ninjutsu related written assignments. this led to him failing the graduation exams twice and being forgotten by his former friends who became full-fledged ninjas. iwabee blamed the new shinobi era's emphasis on both physical skills and studies for holding him back. as a result, he became rebellious and would often skip classes or be confrontational with younger students.
