Chou, also known as the sword hunter, possesses a collection of rare and unusual swords, including a long flexible sword hidden around his waist and a double-bladed sword called renbatou. despite using master sheathing techniques, he is only an average opponent when not wielding these exotic weapons. he has a calm exterior, usually keeping one eye closed while talking and opening both eyes only when excited in battle. he speaks with a kansai-ben accent.
chou's fighting style varies based on the sword he uses, but his primary style is garyuorochi. in orochi (eight-headed hydra), he bounces his sword, hakujin no tachi (the thin blade) on the ground in waves. he employs sakasa kuchu noutou (mid-air sheathing) to locate seikus son iori's final sword, which was placed as a godsword in a temple. this was during the time when kenshin defeated him with that very sword. although chou boasted about his juppongatana members being stronger than him, he proved to be no match for a well-armed kenshin.
after shishios death, chou visited kenshin and his friends to inform them of what happened to the remaining juppongatana members. later, he worked under saitou as a spy/informant. in the anime, chou attempted to attack amakusa shougo but was defeated soundly. in the manga, he appeared in the jinchuu arc to help uncover information about enishi.
