The story revolves around a character named Katy/Chao who forms a bond with Unico after he is transported away from his solitary island home by the West Wind. Despite having no family or kin, she aspires to become human so that she may pursue her dream of becoming a witch. When granted this wish by Unico, she experiences both the exhilaration and perils associated with being a real girl.
