Acetylene Lamp is well-known for the iconic running gag candle that sits on top of his head in the dent. This character was inspired by an image of one of Tezuka's childhood friends who shared similarities with him. Despite being a villain, Lamp has played various roles throughout his career, including Inspector Tomobiki in Black Jack and Acetylene Lamppe in Adolf. He also had lesser roles such as the conductor on the Marine Express in Undersea Super Train. Initially, Lamp was recognized by his long face and large round eyes, but later he wore thick round glasses that became part of his signature appearance. Throughout his career, Lamp has taken on many different roles, from a minor assistant to a major propaganda activist.
