Michikos childhood friend and rival, Atsuko, is a police officer who was responsible for arresting Michiko 12 years before the main plot. Although she appears regretful about having to chase Michiko after her escape from jail, there is also a part of Atsuko that enjoys the whole affair. Atsuko often refers to Michiko as "Jambo," which can mean a syzygium fruit in Portuguese or someone with dark or brown skin.
