Makoto Kurita is a student in class 5-3 who is perhaps the youngest in heart and spirit, despite being the same age as all of his classmates. At the start of the series, he runs away from any scary phenomenon due to fear, but with Nubes guidance and support from his friends, he learns to face his fears and grow up in certain ways. One of Makoto's greatest strengths is his kind and friendly nature, which allows him to remain cheerful even when faced with both human and youkai threats. However, he remains the most childlike of Nubes students, both in terms of stature (though small, he constantly hopes for the day he will "grow up") and his love of kiddy pastimes like keeping pets or watching sentai series. His favorite is Chou Kiken Sentai Kakukaku Ranger, a parody of Ninja Sentai Kaku Ranger. Despite receiving horrible grades like Hiroshi and Katsuya, Makoto puts in effort to improve himself in any way possible. His name and character design are inspired by the Kazuo Umezu manga series Makoto-chan.
