In the Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex series, a young woman named Eka Turkuro was kidnapped by an anticybernetic group known as the "New World Brigade" 16 years prior to the events of the show. She received one of the first cyberbrains and was held captive for several years. During the episode NOT EQUAL, she is seen by members of the Japanese Coast Guards Special Security Team but disappears with them after they vanish. Later, Section 9 rescues her along with an elderly hostage and the only surviving member of the Security Team. However, upon further investigation, it's discovered that the woman they saved was actually Eka Turkuro's daughter, who had been leading the terrorists all along. The real Eka Turkuro had aged rapidly due to stress from her kidnapping or the experimental technology she received from her father.
