Mrs. Ryuuguu started her career as a designer at a small clothing factory in Okinomiya where she met Mr. Ryuuguu. They married and lived in an apartment in Okinomiya until Mrs. Ryuuguu became pregnant, after which they moved into the paternal grandmothers house of Rena's father. The manufacturer that Mrs. Ryuuguu worked for began to face financial difficulties, so she considered going independent with a few other designers. However, an offer from a design office in Ibaraki came through and she took it. The company promised her a responsible project due to the high expectations of her talent. When they moved again, Mr. Ryuuguu had to give up his job and became a homemaker. Mrs. Ryuuguu's project was successful, but this led to long working hours and late nights at work. She would often take Rena out places without telling her father, including barbecue parties with coworkers. During this time, Mrs. Ryuuguu had an affair with a fellow designer known as Mr. Akihito. He was drafted by a headhunter to work at a bigger company and was promoted to a higher position. Mrs. Ryuuguu wanted Rena to leave her father and come live with her and Mr. Akihito, but Rena strongly opposed this idea. This is when Mrs. Ryuuguu revealed that she was pregnant. She sent a lawyer to the household in Ibaraki many times but refused to meet him in any form, including over the phone. Mr. Ryuuguu became depressed and so did Rena. They had one last meeting where Rena didn't speak to her mother, but Mr. Ryuuguu gave her a letter to give to her mother, which she didn't read when asked. This was the final time Mrs. Ryuuguu met with Rena.
