GUMI is an official mascot character created by INTERNET Co.,Ltd. for their singing synthesizer application software, Megpoid, which uses Yamahas Vocaloid2 and was published by the company. The avatar of this software was designed by illustrator Masami Yuuki. GUMI is a Vocaloid that follows in the footsteps of Gakupo, but has a more retro-futuristic approach. The name "GUMI" comes from Megumi Nakajimas nickname in her childhood, and the software name "Megpoid" is derived from the providers name "Megumi." The "-poid" at the end of the name stands for "like Vocaloid," implying that this product is similar to Yamahas popular vocal synthesizer.
