Dr. Nako, also known as "Doctor," is a doctor from Cocoyashi Village who was significant to Namis childhood but has a minor role in the present day. In the flashback sequence, he plays an important part, while his contribution is more limited during the current storyline. He assists the crowd in fighting against the Arlong Pirates and later tends to the wounds of Zoro, Luffy, Yosaku, and Johnny. Dr. Nako complains about there being no doctor on board, which sparks an idea from Luffy to find one for themselves. As a result, he puts a pinwheel tattoo on Namis left arm to conceal her stab scars. Dr. Nako wears a red cross bandana and sunglasses, both symbols of medical personnel, although this detail is removed in the English anime version.
