Ruth is a member of a group known as Space Pirates, which consists of three individuals who engage in illegal activities such as hijacking transports and stealing their cargo. They operate out of orbit around Earth, targeting ships for theft and then selling the stolen goods to people on the planet. To conceal their operations, they use delivery trucks with a purple penguin painted on the side. Their primary weapon is a harpoon system that can deliver a computer virus capable of causing uncontrollable behavior in a ship's computer systems. They successfully infected Faye, Jet, and Ed, even managing to bypass Ed's security measures. To defeat them, Spike had to manually fly his ship without relying on its computers.
