Sairin is currently the ruler of Sai, known as Kirin. Prior to choosing Kouko as monarch, Sairin selected a king named Shishou, who ascended Mount Hou after the demise of the previous king. At the start of his reign, Shishou presented Sairin with the royal treasure of Sai, a jeweled branch called kashokada, symbolizing his commitment to rule wisely and bring prosperity to the nation. However, during his twenty-year tenure, Shishou's actions caused Sairin to develop shitsudou. Realizing he had strayed from the path, Shishou climbed Mount Hou to renounce the throne and took his own life. Subsequently, Sairin appointed Kouko as king and has since carried a branch with leaves on it as a reminder of the unfulfilled promise made by Shishou to govern his country well.
