As a result of a miscommunication referred to as Mimi, Kanako gave away computers to Akira Shimada. Although she communicated with the desktop as if it were human, the machine did not respond. In response, Mimi decided to teach Shimada proper etiquette. Despite having only 640 KB of memory (which was typical for the time), Mimi managed to install a routine that allowed her to interact with the computer on demand. Later, it became apparent that the few KB available proved helpful in a virtual confrontation between Mimi and an amorphous mass of mouth and eyes known as Shimada.
