Gray the Ninelives is an integral member of the Gung-Ho-Guns with immense strength and resilient armor made from metal and flesh. Despite his size, he demonstrated agility in combat. In the first anime, Gray was a humanoid cyborg equipped with several concealed weapons within his body and controlled his legs using his brain located on his hips. He did not speak but made eerie sounds and laughed at Wolfwood during their battle. In the manga, Gray stood at 7 feet 5 inches tall, a bulky muscular humanoid cyborg wearing black leather or vinyl jumpsuits with studs or bearings. His mouth lacked lips and had a mostly vertical orientation with small thin teeth. His head and neck resembled a snake or worm during his fight against Wolfwood, wielding two large gauntlets with built-in grenade launchers. In Trigun Stampede, Gray transformed into an enormous mecha controlled by someone inside.
He proves nearly indestructible, easily shrugging off continuous machine-gun fire from Wolfwoods Punisher gun. Wolfwood eventually blasts him with a rocket and discovers Gray is actually formed from nine dwarfs controlling a bio-mechanical suit from the inside, allowing them to keep fighting until all nine are dead.
