The second president of Genshiken, named Madarame, was personally chosen by the first president to succeed him due to his leadership and initiative. He's an avid fan of Gundam and is often referred to as the most hardcore otaku among the group. Despite being known for buying dōjinshi without looking at prices, which sometimes leaves him with little money for basic necessities like food (his favorite sushi is bacon-topped mayonnaise), Madarame takes pride in all his purchases. The Official Genshiken Data Books consider the highest level of otaku "Madarame." Initially, Madarame's loud and staunch support for his own otaku lifestyle made him Sakis enemy in Genshiken, but as he developed feelings for Saki, it influenced their interactions. Even after graduating and getting a job at Sakura Pipe Repair thanks to his "computer literacy" (essentially experience with porn games), Madarame never confessed his feelings to Saki, fearing ruining their friendship. In the relaunch of the manga, Madarame continues to visit the Genshiken clubroom for lunch and agrees to let Hato use his apartment to change into a girl while attending classes as a male, showing his continued support for the group's diverse members.
