Since Volume 6 of the novel series, Nanaha has been portrayed as Taro Sados cousin. She attends junior high school and occasionally visits Taros room, which causes Shizuka and Tomoko to become angry. Although it is legal for first cousins to marry in Japan under family law, Taro does not feel sexually attracted to Nanaha because he perceives her as a member of his family. As a result, Nanaha is disliked by Shizuka and Tomoko, who treat her poorly.
