Mashiro is chosen as the new princess due to his striking similarity to the real one. Initially, he is an apathetic adolescent who tends to avoid problems and give up easily. The central plot revolves around his transformation from a pretend princess into a strong ruler. Often, when thinking to himself, Mashiro imagines that he is communicating with his mother.
