At Holy Forest Academy, there was a student who had a tough time before Eikichi Onizuka arrived. He was bullied by Uehara Anko and her group, which caused Noboru to attempt suicide twice, both times jumping off the roof of the school. These actions resulted in him being saved by Onizuka, at the cost of Vice-Principal Hiroshi Uchiyamadas car. Despite this, they quickly became friends, as Onizuka found Noborus items useful. His loyalty to Onizuka was unwavering, even when he willingly sold his game collection to help cover Onizukas debt. During a school trip to Okinawa, Noboru was assigned a room with Anko and her friends by Onizuka. In response to their antics, the girls tied him up and led him into the jungle. However, they all got lost and relied on him for help. Despite the abuse he had endured, Noboru saved Ankos life after she fell off a cliff, getting separated from the others. As the manga progressed, Noboru began to enjoy Ankos company enough that she started feeling affectionate towards him.
