Midori Tamaru is a first-year student at Mizusawa High School and belongs to the Karuta Club. As the newest member of the club, she seeks to establish her dominance among her peers through challenging senior members in games. However, her fellow new recruits dislike her attempts to draw attention to herself, causing tension when the seniors tried to focus on them. Tamaru left the club room abruptly, and outside of the club, she appears reserved and does not have any friends in class. She spends her breaks playing karuta alone.
