Bart Garsus  

Bart Garsus, a citizen of Taraak with wealthy parents who owned a food production company, initially comes across as an excitable, weak, and cowardly individual. However, he eventually becomes the captain of the Nirvana after being chosen by the ship for the job. Early in Vandread The Second Stage, Bart displays compassion towards a sick little girl on a polluted planet. She enjoys his embellished stories and finds his jokes amusing. When a Harvest ship arrives on the planet, Bart shows courage for the first time by single-handedly defending the Nirvana from attack with its weapons. Unfortunately, while he was away, the little girl passed away from her illness. In memory of her, Bart shaves his head and continues to pursue BC for a romantic relationship despite discovering her secret later in the series. Despite this revelation, Bart remains a comic relief character throughout the series.
