A teenage boy with a height that is unusual for his age, who possesses both intelligence and anxiety. He carries around a comprehensive collection of human knowledge and has a unique ability to perceive supernatural entities, despite not being a shaman himself. His communication style is expressive, but also somewhat frantic. In the anime series, he becomes a shaman during the final battle with Hao, allowing him to merge with a spirit. He wields a hammer as his weapon and has Mosuke, the best friend of Amidamaru who forged his sword, as his unofficial guardian ghost. After this event in the anime, Manta gains the ability to connect spirits to his laptop, which he uses to narrate the story for readers and viewers. In English, he is referred to as "Morty," a nickname that was inspired by Japanese pop singer T.M.Revolution.
