During Char Aznable's command, Denim was tasked with a reconnaissance mission to observe an Earth Federation base that was transporting a new type of mobile suit. Alongside Slender and Gene, he carried out this assignment. However, when Gene decided not to follow orders and began attacking the base, Denim had no choice but to support him. After Amuro Ray got into the cockpit of the RX-78-2 Gundam and caused significant damage to Genes Zaku, Denim instructed Gene to withdraw with Slender until Amuro destroyed the retreating Zaku. Enraged by Gene's death, Denim made a final charge at the Gundam. Unfortunately, Amuro was desperate to prevent an explosion from the incoming Zakus engine and fatally damaging Side 7. To stop this, he ran the Beam Saber through the cockpit of the Zaku, effectively stopping it in its tracks and incinerating Denim inside.
