Empress Marianne Vi Britannia was the fifth wife of Emperor Britannia and mother to Lelouch and Nunnally. Her maiden name, Lamperouge, is now assumed by her son Lelouch. Despite being a commoner born into the Imperial House, she faced jealousy from other imperial wives and nobles due to her status. However, several members of the Imperial House respected and admired Empress Marianne, including Clovis, Euphemia, especially Cornelia, who put in great effort to investigate her murder. It is suggested that her supporters were the Ashford family, whose social standing was ruined after her death and who agreed to protect Lelouch and Nunnally. Known for her exceptional Knightmare Frame piloting skills, Empress Marianne earned the nickname "Marianne the Flash." In episode 23 of Code Geass, it is revealed that C.C. has been communicating with Marianne via an unknown method. This is further confirmed in episode 7 of R2. At the end of season one, a significant plot twist occurs when it is discovered that Cornelia was actually working undercover for Britannia and had been manipulating events from behind the scenes to ensure the success of Operation Valkyrie.

In a flashback from one of the novels, she uses the Ganymede to intimidate a fellow consort who had been cruelly harassing Lelouch and Nunnally - all while maintaining a cheery, motherly disposition with a warm smile on her face. It is also to be noted that her death greatly affected and changes the life of Lelouch, who went on a great length to avenge her death and formed the resolution to create a new world where Nunnally can live in peace.Because of her death, little is known about Marianne as a person; the side materials paint her as a sweet, kind-hearted woman, albeit one with a rebellious spirit and a deep protective instinct towards her children.
