The Captain of the 801st squad, Konishi, has a rivalry with Kengamine Kouji at school. Konishi is known for being easygoing, outgoing, speaking in high tones, and almost always wearing sunglasses. He supports his team members and works hard to keep them safe from disbandment. In his youth, Konishi won a ramen eating contest and was friends with Kouji. Before becoming captain, Konishi had feelings for Saginomiya Sakura but so did his best friend, Toshimitsu Tokaji, who was also in love with her. On the day of her flight exam, Sakura mistakenly thought that Konishi proposing to her was actually Tokaji and said his name, causing Konishi to reveal that it was indeed Tokaji giving her the ring. Despite this, Sakura secretly harbors feelings for Konishi and becomes ill whenever she sings karaoke.
