In Dragon Ball Z Dead Zone, Garlic Junior was a demon who served as the main antagonist during a filler saga. His father had been imprisoned by Kami in the realm of darkness, leaving him with feelings of resentment and desire for revenge. He managed to collect the Dragon Balls and gain immortality. However, he was defeated when faced with an angry Gohan, who pushed him into the Dead Zone, a dimension where Garlic Jr. had free access. Despite his defeat, he reappeared in the Garlic Jr. Saga between the Freeza and Trunks sagas and battled once more against Kuririn, Piccolo, and Son Gohan. He used his power source, the Makyo-sei, to escape from the Dead Zone but was stopped after Gohan destroyed it, leaving him trapped in the dimension again. Garlic Jr.'s resemblance is similar to Pilaf, a cunning villainous dwarf who appeared earlier in the series and was voiced by Chuck Huber and Shigeru Chiba. However, while Pilaf was a comic relief character, Garlic Jr. was much more serious and sadistic, reflecting the change in tone of the entire Dragon Ball series.
