Devastor (also known as a Scavenger) was employed by Megatron because of his abilities as a mercenary and bounty hunter for Microns. This was due to difficulties that Megatron was facing with the troops under his command. Initially, Devastor was uncertain about whether to take on the assignment, but seeing the pitiful condition of the Destrons after their defeat at the hands of Hot Rod and Star Saber convinced him to accept it. His disrespectful and mocking attitude towards Megatron intimidated other Destrons and earned Starscream's hatred.
