In volume 12 of the novels, Amata was first introduced as a sadistic scientist who served as Commander of the Hound Dog, a Black Ops force under Aleister in Academy City. Although Academy City does not have an official Black Ops force, many Directors maintain their own personal forces or set up groups like ITEM and SCHOOL. Amata is known for discovering Accelerator and training him as his former guardian and teacher, despite constantly abusing the latter and subjecting him to deadly experiments that killed other participants. Later, when the Hound Dog are ordered to kidnap Last Order from Accelerator, Amata proves to be a challenging opponent for the latter due to her understanding of how his powers work and using it against him during their physical confrontation.
