Wataru is the main character in both the movie and television series, and is considered highly influential. He's a fifth-grade student who befriends Mitsuru after an incident at an abandoned warehouse where Mitsuru was being bullied by older students. During this encounter, Wataru discovers the existence of the "Gate to the Other World," a place where one's wishes can come true. Driven by his desire to join Mitsuru and explore this new world, Wataru decides to leave his own world behind. However, things take a turn for the worse when he returns home to find his mother ill. As he navigates through these challenges, Wataru is accompanied by Kee Kema and Miina, who also join him on his journey. Throughout his adventures, Wataru collects gems and even earns a bracelet for capturing criminals. Eventually, he confronts Mitsuru about the actions he has taken and learns the truth about Mitsuru's past, which changes him in some way.
