In June 2014, the first version of Tomodachi Life was released on Nintendo 3DS.

During a live broadcast called Nintendo Direct on Thursday, it was revealed that Nintendo is releasing a new game in the series called Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream for the Nintendo Switch in 2026.
In June 2014, the initial version of Tomodachi Life for
Nintendo 3DS was released in England as a follow-up to the original Japanese game, Tomodachi Collection.
In this game, your Mii character is used to connect with your friends in a virtual apartment building. You can engage in various activities with your Miis such as eating, changing clothes, socializing with other Miis, playing video games, meeting real-life celebrities like Christina Aguilera and Shaquille O'neal, and expressing your love for them.
In response to criticism about the lack of same-sex relationships in Tomodachi Life,
Nintendo released an apology prior to its 3DS version launch. Although they stated that they couldn't modify the game after its June 2014 Western release, they promised that if they created another Tomodachi title, they would aim to create a more inclusive experience that accurately reflected all players.
