Series launched in July 2024
According to recent reports, Kadokawa has announced that the fourth volume of Sanami Suzuki's adaptation of The Colors Within ( Kimi no Iro ) will be the final installment in the series. This latest anime feature film by Science SARU and director Naoko Yamada (known for her work on K-ON!, The Heike Story, and A Silent Voice) will be released on June 10th.
Totsuko is a high school student with the ability to perceive people's emotions through their heart colors. She attends a mission school in Nagasaki where she uses her gift to keep her loved ones from experiencing negative emotions. One day at an antique bookstore in town, she encounters a stunning woman with a captivating heart color and a music-passionate boy trying to form a band. The narrative focuses on these three emotionally sensitive individuals as they unite to create music together.
In July 2024, Suzuki released an updated version. Meanwhile, on February 10th, Kadokawa published the third volume of their compilation.
On April 1st, GKIDS made the movie available for purchase or rental on various digital platforms including Amazon, Apple, Google, Fandango, Microsoft, and iNDEMAND. On May 27th, they also released it in physical format as a Blu-ray Disc.
On January 24th, the movie was released in US cinemas featuring both the original Japanese language version and English subtitles as well as an English dubbed version.
In Japan, The Colors Within premiered on August 30th. Originally scheduled for fall 2023, it was later set for release in 2024. GKIDS secured distribution rights for North America, Latin America, Australia, and New Zealand. Anime Ltd. obtained the rights for Europe. PLAION PICTURES is handling sales for Italy and Germany, while CHARADES is managing distribution for the rest of Europe, Latin America, Australia, and New Zealand.
On October 18th at the event's opening day, The Colors Within had its North American premiere screening at GKIDS in Annecy and Variety magazine's Animation Is Film festival in Los Angeles. This film won the festival's Audience Award.
