Membership extends to Switch, Switch 2
On Wednesday, Nintendo posted a video detailing the advantages of being a paid member of Nintendo Switch Online, which also includes additional perks with the newly launched Nintendo Switch 2 console. Members of the Switch will be able to transfer their membership to the new console.
Individuals with the "Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack" subscription will receive enhanced versions of games like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom for the Nintendo Switch 2. Additionally, they will receive free downloadable content for select games.
In addition to utilizing the enhanced GameChat functionality through the Switch 2 controllers, individuals with a "
Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack" subscription will also gain access to GameCube games alongside
Nintendo 64, Game Boy Advance, and
Sega Genesis games.
In summary, all types of
Nintendo membership provide benefits such as playing games online, accessing exclusive games, listening to music from
Nintendo, and saving data in the cloud.
In September 2018,
Nintendo introduced its online service known as Switch Online. Then, in October 2021, they released an upgraded version called "
Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack," which provides access to games from the libraries of
Nintendo 64, Game Boy Advance, and
Sega Genesis. This is a paid membership service.
On January 16th,
Nintendo officially announced the release of their new console called Switch 2. This device will be available for purchase in multiple countries including the United States and Japan starting from June 5th. According to their predictions, by the end of their fiscal year, which is March 31st, 2026, they expect to have sold approximately 15 million units of this console.
