Shuuichi Shigeno's new story follows 2 drivers linked to previous manga's characters
On Friday, it was revealed that Shuuichi Shigeno will begin his new manga series Subaru and Subaru (Subaru to Subaru) in Kodansha's Weekly Young Magazine in July. This new manga will continue the storyline of Shigeno's previous manga series Initial D and MF Ghost. It will focus on two characters named Subaru who possess the spirit of being the fastest on public roads.
The upcoming manga features the story of two individuals named Subaru Satō and Subaru Kudō. When Subaru Satō encounters Bunta from Initial D, her destiny is set in motion. Meanwhile, Subaru Kudō appears before MF Ghost characters Ogata and Aiba. Although their names are spelled similarly, they are written with different kanji characters. The preview showcases some panels from the manga that suggest a possible connection between Subaru Satō and Mako Satō from Initial D.
In 1995, Shigeno started publishing his Initial D manga in Young Magazine. This series ended in July 2013. Tokyopop released the initial parts of this manga in North America. Kodansha Comics and Comixology currently offer the complete English version of this manga. This manga inspired several anime series, including a live-action film, original video anime projects, game lines, a 2001 anime film, and a trilogy of anime films, with the third installment opening in February 2016.
In September 2017, Shigeno started publishing the MF Ghost manga series in Young Magazine. He finished it in February this year. The last volume of the series was released in Japan on Friday, which was the 23rd and final compiled book volume. Kodansha USA Publishing is currently releasing the English version of the manga, which describes its storyline.
