Company assures "refunds will be processed upon customer request after service termination"
Naver WEBTOON is currently handling refund requests for Wind Breaker webtoon by Yongseok Jo after it was suspended due to plagiarism accusations. This is not related to Satoru Nii's manga with the same title.
Naver WEBTOON announced on July 14th that their customer support team is currently accepting refund requests from customers who purchased episodes of a popular sports webtoon. They will issue refunds upon request due to the title being removed from their platform.
In June, there were criticisms directed at the show due to its episodes having similarities with panels from Japanese manga such as Tokyo Ghoul . Jo attributed this to the pressure of meeting weekly deadlines and expressed regret for any creative standards that may have been compromised. Although the show will no longer continue, Jo has shared details of the intended ending on his personal blog along with his apology for any inconvenience caused. ( link ) in English on WEBTOON .
Naver WEBTOON announced that Wind Breaker is similar in composition and direction to other works, leading them to end both its serialization and service.
Some customers who utilized in-app money (cookies) to access the latest chapters or purchased permanent copies through Naver Series are requesting refunds. The company stated that refunds will be granted upon request after the service ends.
Wind Breaker's English version was contacted by ANN regarding potential refunds. However, as of now, no response has been received from WEBTOON's global division.
Since its launch in 2013, Wind Breaker has been a successful Naver WEBTOON series that follows the story of a high school student involved in competitive cycling. It has gained popularity worldwide with translations available in English, Japanese, and Chinese.
The English version of Wind Breaker is available on WEBTOON ( link ) , but the service states the series "will soon be unavailable on the platform."
