In North America, there will be screenings of the remastered version of Mamoru Oshii's anime series "Angel's Egg" in November. Additionally, there will be a New York premiere at the New York Film Festival.
The movie is set to have its first showing in New York City during the 63rd NYFF, which takes place from September 26th to October 13th in the "Revivals" section.
On May 20 at the 78th Cannes International Film Festival, the world premiere of the 4K remaster was shown at the Cinéma de la Plage screening.
This year at the Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival in Spain, they will show the 4K remastered version of the film. The festival runs from October 9th to October 19th in Sitges.
In May 2024, Tokuma Shoten revealed that they would release a remastered version of their film. Gebeka International obtained the global rights for this 4K version in the same month. Additionally, GKIDS will make the film available for home viewing.
The remaster is based on a new scan of a 35mm film negative of the anime.
In 1985, the first release of the anime series "The Angel's Egg" occurred in Japan. This was directed by Koji Yamamura at Studio DEEN. Koji Yamamura collaborated with Yoshitaka Amano on the story concept, while Yamamura wrote the screenplay and directed it himself. Additionally, Yoshitaka Amano was responsible for the art direction of the series. Hiroshi Hasegawa, Masao Kobayashi, Mitsunori Miura, and Yutaka Wada served as producers for this film. Yoshihiro Kanno composed the music for it.
HBO Max will add Angel's Egg starting on September 1 in a new partnership with GKIDS .
In September 2023, The Japan Society screened the anime film at their museum in New York City. This was the first time the anime had been released in the West in its original form before that screening. Prior to that release, Carl Colpaert had spliced footage from the anime into his live-action/animated 1987 film In the Aftermath.
