On Saturday, Warner Bros Japan released a teaser trailer for the upcoming Gintama compilation film titled Shin-Gekijōban Gintama : Yoshiwara Daienjō (Gintama New Film Version: Yoshiwara in Flames). This film will be released in 2026 and will adapt the Yoshiwara in Flames arc of the Gintama manga series.
The movie is based on episodes 139-146 from the anime series, with new animated sequences and characters that were not present in the original arc. This information was revealed during a special event celebrating the show's 20th anniversary on Saturday.
During the same occasion, both the anime adaptation of GINTAMA - Mr. Ginpachi's Zany Class (3-Nen Z-Gumi Ginpachi-Sensei) and Tomohito Ōsaki 's spinoff novel series were revealed as having an October 6th release date.
In Japan, starting in 2021, both the 2013 film "Gintama: The Final" and the 2021 film "Gintama THE VERY FINAL" will be shown in 4DX screenings. ( link ) on August 22 and November 14 respectively as part of the franchise's 20th anniversary celebration.
In Japan in November 2023, Gintama on Theater 2D: Baragaki-hen (Thorny Arc) was shown for three weeks in theaters. Following that in June 2024, Gintama on Theater 2D: Ikkoku Keisei-hen was released for three weeks. In November 2024, Gintama on Theater 2D: Kintama-hen was screened for three weeks in Japan. On February 7th, Gintama on Theater 2D: Shinsengumi Crisis Arc was shown in Japan, while Gintama on Theater 2D: Kabukicho Four Devas Arc was released for three weeks starting from February 21st.
To commemorate the 20th anniversary of Hideaki Sorachi 's Gintama manga debut in 2023 and the television anime's premiere in 2026, there will be special collections released as part of the Gintama franchise celebration. Additionally, two "on Theater 2D" compilations were created in 2012 and 2013 due to the popularity of the Yorinuki Gintama -san rerun of the television anime.
The manga series by Sorachi began in 2003 and ended in June 2019 with over 55 million copies in circulation. It inspired several anime series with 367 episodes in total, as well as three previous anime films. The latest anime series premiered in July 2018. Additionally, the manga inspired various OVA, event anime, two live-action films, and two live-action net spinoffs. Viz Media published the first 23 volumes of the manga in English.
