The Grappler was originally published in Weekly Shōnen Champion magazine from 1991 to 1999 as a martial arts manga that consisted of 42 volumes. Now, Kodama Tales will release this manga worldwide in English starting in October.
The Baki sequel manga was published in English by Media Do and ran for 31 volumes from 1999 to 2005. Following that, Itagaki released the Hanma Baki manga in Weekly Shōnen Champion from 2005 to 2012. In March 2014, the first volume of the -Dou manga was launched in Weekly Shōnen Champion and ended in April 2018 with a total of 22 volumes. This makes it the fourth manga in the franchise.
In October 2018, a new -Dou manga was introduced in Weekly Shōnen Champion. This version of the series featured different characters for "Baki" than its predecessor, but retained the "-Dou" name. It concluded in June 2023. Meanwhile, the latest addition to the franchise, Baki Rahen, was released in August 2023 in Weekly Shōnen Champion.
The manga series "New Grappler Baki" by Itagaki was first released on Netflix in Japan in June 2018 with 26 episodes ending in December 2018. Netflix released the first half of the series outside Japan in December 2018 followed by the second half in March 2019.
In June 2020, Netflix released all episodes of "The Baki: Dai Raitaisai-Hen" anime globally. This is the third Netflix series featuring Baki Hanma, who is also the protagonist of "The Baki: Dai Raitaisai-Hen" series. In September 2021, Netflix released all episodes of "The Baki: Dai Raitaisai-Hen" sequel series globally.
In July 2023, the global release of the second season of Baki Hanma on Netflix featured "The Tale of Pickle & The Pickle War Saga". Meanwhile, "The Father VS Son Saga" was introduced as part of the anime series' storyline in August 2023.
