Throroughbred race horse had 113-loss streak before she retired
On Tuesday, Haru Urara, who was the inspiration for the character of the same name in the Uma Musume Pretty Derby franchise, passed away peacefully at the age of 29. This was announced by the official Twitter account of the franchise.
On Monday, a vet examined Urara because she wasn't pooping. It turned out that she had horse colic, which is stomach pain due to trapped gas in her intestines. Her condition deteriorated quickly and tragically resulted in her passing away early Tuesday morning.
During her career from 1998 to 2004, Urara suffered 113 losses without any wins. Despite this, she gained popularity as a horse known for never giving up. After retiring in 2004, she lived out the rest of her days at Matha Farm in Onjuku, Chiba.
At the release of the Uma Musume game in February 2021, Urara became part of the franchise as an anthropomorphic horse character. Her in-game character mirrors her real-life persona, which is currently experiencing setbacks. Yukina Shutō provides the voice for Urara in both the games and anime versions of the series.
In 2016, Uma Musume Pretty Derby : Haru Urara Ganbaru! was released as a spin-off manga featuring Haru Urara's character. This popular horse has gained fans due to her portrayal in the franchise as well as her famous losing streak. Fans have flocked to Matha Farm to meet and support Haru Urara.
In February 2021, Uma Musume Pretty Derby was released for iOS and Android devices. It was also released on PC via DMM Games in March of the same year. On June 26, the English version of the game became available for both iOS and Android devices. Inspired by the manga "Uma Musume Cinderella Gray," a new anime series premiered on April 6th. This anime franchise includes previous TV seasons, "Uma Musume Pretty Derby: Road to the Top" net anime, and "Umayon" spinoff television anime. In May 2024, "Uma Musume Pretty Derby: Shinjidai no Tobira" (Uma Musume Pretty Derby: Beginning of a New Era), a new anime film in the franchise, was released.
