Live-action Bleach, Kingdom director Shinsuke Satō to helm project
On Tuesday, The Hollywood Reporter reported that Jason Fuchs has been assigned to write the script for Legendary Entertainment's live-action film adaptation of Kōhei Horikoshi's My Hero Academia manga. Previously, Joby Harold was expected to write the adaptation.
Netflix is producing and distributing a project directed by Shinsuke Satō, who has worked on live-action adaptations of Bleach, Alice in Borderland, Kingdom, Death Note Light up the NEW world, Gantz, and I am a Hero.
Alex Garcia and Jay Ashenfelder are in charge of managing the project at Legendary Entertainment. Meanwhile, Ryōsuke Yoritomi is responsible for managing it at Shueisha in Japan. TOHO will distribute it in Japan.
In July 2014, Horikoshi started the manga series in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine. He ended it in August 2024 after adding 38 extra pages in the final book volume of the manga. Viz Media publishes the manga in English both digitally and in print in North America, releasing the 41st volume on June 3rd. Additionally, Shueisha's MANGA Plus service also releases the manga digitally in English. As of April 2024, the manga had over 100 million copies worldwide in circulation.
The anime series will have its last season start on October 4th. In Japan, the fourth movie in the series was released in August 2024. It was shown in IMAX, MX4D, 4DX, and Dolby Cinema. TOHO International brought it to U.S. cinemas on October 11th.
My Hero Academia: Vigilantes is a spinoff manga series created by Hideyuki Furuhashi and Betten Court that was released on April 7 on Tokyo MX and BS NTV channels. It is available for streaming worldwide on Crunchyroll except in Asia, along with an English dub. A second season is planned for release in 2026.
