To mark its 40th year milestone, a new anime adaptation has been announced. According to the staff, this CG-animated version will closely adhere to the source material.
In this world after the apocalypse, the plot revolves around Kenshiro, a skilled martial artist who has taken over his family's deadly art form. He journeys through the ruins of civilization, safeguarding those who cannot defend themselves from ruthless criminals. Along his way, he encounters other skilled martial artists and faces challenges from his past, such as his "brother" Raoh, who has declared himself ruler of this new society.
The manga was serialized in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump from 1983 to 1988. Viz Media released both digital and physical versions of the new edition in June 2021.
The Fist of the North Star TV series was broadcasted on TV from 1984-88 with 152 episodes. It inspired many other TV shows, movies, and spinoffs. Recently, Hiroshi Kurao started a new spinoff manga titled "Fist of the North Star Apocalypse Drama Filming Arc" on Comic Zenon in February 2021.
