According to the Box Office Mojo website, as of September 21st, the first film in the Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle trilogy, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle - Akaza Sairai, has made approximately US$555 million worldwide. This makes it the highest earning anime film of all time worldwide as well as the highest earning Japanese film of all time worldwide. Additionally, it is now ranked as the #9 highest grossing film globally in 2025, surpassing both The Fantastic Four: First Steps and Captain America: Brave New World .
According to recent reports, the movie made around $17.3 million in the US over three days, placing it at the top of the weekend box office. This marks the first time that an anime movie has been number one for two consecutive weekends in the US. On Friday, it made $4,585,000, on Saturday it made $7,300,000, and on Sunday it is expected to make around $5,415,000. In total, it has grossed over $104 million in the US (unadjusted for inflation), making it the highest-grossing anime movie in the country. Additionally, it is the first anime movie to surpass $100 million in the US.
In its opening weekend, the movie made $70.6 million, surpassing the previous record for the biggest opening weekend for an anime movie in the U.S., both unadjusted and adjusted for inflation. Prior to this, the 1999 anime film Pokémon: The First Movie held the record with $31 million.
As of September 15th, the movie had sold over 23 million tickets for more than ¥33 billion (approximately $224 million) in Japan, making it the second highest-grossing movie in Japan's history. This surpassed Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli's Spirited Away, which earned over ¥31 billion (approximately $315 million) in 2001, making it the #2 highest-grossing movie in Japan at that time.
The movie "Demon Slayer - Kimetsu no Yaiba - The Movie: Mugen Train" from the "Demon Slayer" franchise is currently the highest-grossing film in Japan with a total of approximately US$277 million in current conversion after earning 40.75 billion yen in Japan. It surpassed "Spirited Away," which was previously the highest-grossing film in Japan, just two months after its release in Japan in December 2020.
Ufotable is responsible for both directing the anime and writing its screenplay. Haruo Sotozaki is in charge of directing it, while LiSA performs "Zankoku no Yoru ni Kagayake" and Aimer performs "Taiyō ga Noboranai Sekai".
